hi i'm wanting to get my second bass, i could probably save for a while longer to get a fender jazz, however some people have told me the squier jazz is just as good for the price, any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks

You should just play a few and see what feels and sounds best. Really, there isn't a right answer.
I have an American Standard Jazz owned for 20 years, I bought new, and has been my 'go to' bass ever since. Student has a CV Squier Jazz, for the money I think it's the best deal out there for a first jazz style, far better than the MIM's I've had my hands on. Schecter Diamond Jazz would be something I'd maybe consider.
Go with a used American Standard Jazz
And if he likes the Squier better, what then?
Agree also on the Schecter. Schecter is spot on when it comes to their basses.

Fer crying in the soup it's SQUIER, not Squire. Any way, there's many options. The fact is the op seems to have narrowed it to Fender MIM or Squier, thus the wording of his question. Does that mean anything to anyone? He wants opinions on them not others. The rest is just noise. Not to be rude but let's not complicate this. It's a Fender vs. Squier question. Cheez.
