Fender jazz pickups from the early 80's

Hey folks can I get some feed back on fender jazz pickups from the early 08's, just use or don't use. I'm building my own bass and I want to use Fender jazz pups with an up graded tone control set up. I've been paying for a lot of years and my style is primarily finger with and bit of slap etc. I'm a groove meister, not so much the soloist. So I'm trying to build the best Fender equipped bass without buying the real deal. I have some great tone woods and I will be using birdseye maple on the fret board, ash, or walnut or koa on the body, I haven't nailed my choice yet on the body. So form your Fender experiences what components would you folks choose to get the ultimate custom Fender jazz build. I appreciate any feedback I get especially from you pros. Thanks up front. Doc.
