Fender JMJ side of neck flaking

If the instrument is new just return it , the rest of that neck finish will flake off or need to be sanded off at some point . It's one thing for the finish to wear down and another for it to flake off .

I feel like this is pretty rare for the JMJ's, overall QC on them seems pretty good. If it bothers you, I say return it. But I also think if you really dig the roadworn look (I personally do) then I say keep it, get a little blood on it even. I don't think that will affect the sound at all. I also don't hear a difference between rosewood and maple, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I looked at mine. The nitro finish does go up onto the side of the fingerboard. None of mine is cracked or has come off.

My worry would be something wasn’t done right when the nitro was applied to the neck, meaning this cracking and flaking could continue onto the back of the neck. I’d trade it in for another one.
