Fender Made in Japan Hybrid Jazz V??

With the most recent Fender Japan export models released in 2019, it seems this 5 string Jazz model went under the radar. I don't think these were ever available in here Australia. Looking for any first hand experience with these or anyone who has played one. Do they compare closer to Player V series or US Standard V?

The idea of a 60s RI 5 string Jazz with traditional headstock logo style, old school truss adjustment BUT modern bridge and no holes for chrome covers is a little inconsistent but I still kinda dig it…

Don't hesitate. These are Fender's best kept secret!! Such a sweet spot for price too.

I love my one, it's been my main gigging 5 string for over a year now. Super comfy to play, great tone for live and the studio. A real sleeper model.

I've had one for a few weeks now and absolutely love it. I've owned a few 5 strings in the past (include an Fender Japan Aerodyne jazz) but never really connected with any of them.

It's comfortable to hold, and the neck has got a bit of meat to it, without feeling 'chunky'. Most 5 strings seem to have very thin necks, or are quite flat.

The build quality is very good, but the hardware doesn't feel as solid as my USA p-bass. Perfectly serviceable hardware though.

The one thing I really loved about the Aerodyne was the tones, and it's very similar to the hybrid on that front. Which is what you'd expect given they're both passive Js...

Mine is in the modena red, which looks absolutely awesome

I've had one for about 8 months - don't care for it at all. Pick-ups seem gutless and the E string doesn't resonate properly on certain frets. Gigged with it a few dozen times but meh... not the right bass for me!

Have since set it up with lighter gauge strings and lower action - it's fine for messing about with in the house and can produce some lovely tones. But for live gigs it's let down by the weakness of the pick-ups.

I'd recommend spending the same on a G&L L2000; that's what I just did and it's a superior bass in every way imaginable. So the Hybrid will be sold soon as that Fender logo is always sure to fetch a decent price!

I got a Hybrid II V today and I'm very surprised on the incredible build quality.
It is natural Alder finish with one piece Maple neck, tort pickguard.
Bone Nut, spectacular circuit with cts pots, big orange capacitor and very tidy up wiring. Tuners and bridge are ok, they are basic gotoh stuff but do the job just fine. The only thing I may change is pickups, the are kinda dull maybe, I have to try the bass on a gig to make a decision but overall it is a great bass. Fairly light weighr, 21 frets which is what Fender should have done yests ago on all 5ers and the 9,5 inch radius is glorious, I prefer round boards. Frets are vintage tall, fretwork is impecable, neck joint too.
And there are no wiring cavities under the hood wich drives me nuts on american models, there is no good reason to carve big holes under the pickguard on a pasive jazz bass, makes no sense, never did.
So, great bass at least for me.
