MM's preamp in his original bass is a Bartolini that was installed by Roger Sadowsky. There is a lot of debate on whether it is a Sadowsky preamp or something else...

There is an interview by J. Ross on YouTube where MM says that the preamp in the Fender signature models is designed by John Suhr.


the preamps for 4-string and 5-string are different. The 4-string has a Fender FMEQ in a molded box:

The 5-string has an open circuit board that looks much more like my old Pensa-Suhr preamp.

Alright so I got in contact with the seller this past friday and everything was very great and positive!

I ended up snatching it and now it's sitting at my tech setting it up. Can't wait to get my hands on it end of this week, when I tried it it felt really great in my hands, allowing for more than my 2016 Elite V, while also weighing about 1-1.5kg less than my Elite V!

If all goes to plan and the bass responds to lower action that I like and trussrod works like intended, this might just be an incredibly good workhorse!

I'll try to record some samples or something for you guys to check out once it gets in my hands :)

Congratulations on your bass! I'm new to the TB forum, actually just signed up because I got that exact same bass off Craigslist last week for a grand (including SKB flight case), both in excellent condition. I guess I scored big time Action is a bit high for my liking but I'm enjoying it too much at the moment to drop it off to the shop for a set up

Yup, can you believe that the initial asking price was 550 for bass plus case?!!!!! :confused: So I fired off a text immediately to seal the deal. Reply came back that he didn't realise at first what it was worth so we negotiated up to a grand. That included free delivery, the seller personally dropped it off and waited patiently while I looked it over and tested it through an amp. Definitely not an addict but a perfect gentleman and wonderful human being. Faith restored in humanity :) But that's not the first 'deal of the decade' as I've had quite a few in the last decade....people just usually don't believe me ;)

Holy :O

Well, my bass costed me 1350€ at the end and it is apparently about 300-400€ below the average asking price and there honestly aren't many up for sale.

Action on mine is as low as ever, plays like butter and sounds very sweet and open, which I dig a lot :)
