Fender MIJ series gets little/none promotion?

Who cares what country an instrument is made in? I bet the markup on Japanese Fenders is huge because of transit time, import duties, etc.

I had a MIJ '75 Reissue Jazz, sunburst, rosewood. Nice bass but really it didn't feel like anything more than a $500 instrument. It was nice, but not you could tell it was a cheaper bass. When I see people asking $800-$900 for these things in the TB classifieds, I think they're nuts.

In recent years the MIM Fenders have really gotten great.

I am really interested in the Fretless bass but that “U” shaped neck is throwing me off. I hate those baseball bat necks.
But a Jaco fretless for $999, is really hard to pass up.

Just did a conversion from Yen to USD after somehow, miraculously getting to the ACTUAL Fender Japan website. This is notoriously hard to do.
Anyway, their Traditional 60’s Jazz Bass retails for 90,000 Yen which is $820 USD.
No wonder Fender USA is scared of Japan.

Fender Japan offers 5 different colors for their Traditional 60’s Jazz Bass as compared to 2 for the USA. Smh.

I'm not sure the roll out is over yet. NAMM is still almost a week away and I believe that the colors offered may not be the only ones to come. Lets hope the variety of colors and options grows..The U shaped neck definitely has my interest.......

What I’m also noticing is that their entire line of basses has U-Shaped necks. No 60’s Jazz has a U-Shaped neck to my knowledge. This probably means that they are not allowing Fender Japan to produce ANY instruments with C-Shaped necks because most people prefer C-Shaped necks. It would be too much of a direct competitor to the MIM or USA line.
Shame on you Fender. You’re disgusting. If Fender is scared of the quality of Japans instruments, that should force them to step up their game. Instead, you want to limit the choices that Japan has to work with and only give them access/license to use basic colors and specific instrument neck/body profiles that are lower on the totem pole.
That’s why Sire Basses are killing them right now. I hope Sire is hurting Fender’s pockets.

One thing that bugs me about Fender is that I can never quite find exactly the combination of features I want. These MIJ 70s basses appear to be a great price/value point, but I went in looking for Polar White/White or Burst/Tort and they have neither.

I don't want a bright red or a bright blue bass, to my eyes they look like they are for kids.

I've been gassing for a Geddy jazz so the 70's jazz basses are pretty appealing to me with the pearl inlays. I'm not digging the red or blue though, hoping they come out with more colors.
