why cant fender just sell me a friggen maple neck and maple board for my 08 mia p-bass? why does the neck have to be broken in order for them to sell me one. ***? i have a rosewood board and a want a maple board. whats so difficult about this? ill buy it i dont really care how much it costs at the moment.

i appreciate the link lol i already know about warmoth but i was hoping to get something from fender that was genuine and had a serial number before i go the warmoth route but i guess not.
They did this for awhile with the reissue bass necks. It can lead to alot of fake Fenders.
Check ebay or try to swap with a user here in the classifieds.
Also it is not just Fender. I am not aware of any company that does this.
I know that Music Man is particularly strict.
Warmoth is definitely the best you will get. They are liscensed by Fender, so that's "genuine" enough for me. Fender won't do anything like that, like you said. Just trying to help

i appreciate the help man. it looks like the neck will cost me about 400 dollars through warmoth. i can go for that lol.
+1 for the Stratosphere. I've bought a few things from them and no problems at all. They part out real Fenders, so the parts you get are genuine. Only caution I would mention is that they do list the Highway One parts as MIA only sometimes so be careful you're getting a MIA Standard part instead of the HWY One.
Because they're greedy capitalist $%££%$'s who care more about preserving the authenticity of the vintage market than looking after people who actually use their current products.
I had the same experience many years ago when they kindly offered to sell me a new neck if I handed the old one into a dealer.
I haven't given them a penny of my money since, and have consequently discovered the many superioir instruments made by companies who care about their customers.

Are you set on keeping the rosewood neck? Maybe if you offer to trade it in they'd be more willing to do it? I don't know, just a thought...
Does what - sell replacement necks without demanding your old, already paid for - the one that YOU own - neck first?

I am a Lakland endorser and I am not aware that they will sell anyone just a neck. Especially without getting one back. I believe I asked before and was told no but I will shoot them an email and check.

MPG is pretty small. Anything that size or smaller is not a company but a one man luthier that sells a few intruments a month if that. We cannot include. I am talking about the major players.
In reality the fact that Fenders have so many readily available aftermarket parts makes it much easier than replacing a neck on a Peavey or an Ibanez (who I also see do not offer aftermarket necks).
I almost bought TWO of the same model bass at the same time via mail order, two different colors so two different necks, so I could swap the necks and then return one of the basses.
Never went through with it 'cause I talked myself into giving maple boards a try.
