I remember when Fender32 had one of these, but he wasn't so enamoured with it, citing the easily-knocked fine tuners and the sloped pickup edges as bad design decisions.

Fender P Elite (early 80's) - WOW!!!!!!

That is the rare and desirable Fender Flight case.Here is a few pictures of my P Elite II. Granted you have just seen pictures of a black and maple P Elite II above. Here is mine with Gold hardware. Also, do any of you have a case like what I have?Just curious. I don't know if it's a SKB case or what. I do know of the 11 hardshell cases I have for my basses, this one is the best and most heavy duty of them all.
One note: Before you ask me. Yes! This bass does have gold strings on it. I'm ashamed to say I put a set of Maxima Gold strings on her in 1992 and haven't taken them off yet. I love this bass, but the tone (to me) can get kind of nasty and treblely at times. I put these strings on to see if they might reduce some of the nastiness. It did a little bit.
It was special ordered with your bass.
My Walnut Elites are in them.
I used Maxima Gold strings on my Walnut P Special.
They sounded good, but looked great.
It is a mechanism built into the neck pocket that allows you to adjust the tilt angle of the neck. By adjusting this, you can potentially get lower action.

Well here's my rare lefty '84 Fender Elite II. I've seen only 2 other lefties in my lifetime, so I was stoked to find this one. These are fantastic under-appreciated instruments, IMO. Great slap tones. They sold pretty poorly back then, as players seemed to prefer the vintage reissue designs better. So many elements of this bass were brand new designs for Fender at the time and are unique only to this bass (and the P Deluxe), i.e tuners, bridge, input jack, knobs, etc., so finding parts can be pretty difficult. I did finally find the correct knobs for it after an 8 month search on ebay.

I know what you mean. I'm getting ready to sell my other Ric (4001).

Hey,I have 2 precision specials...79,80...are the pre amps clost to the same ?can anyone tell me the differeces?I'm pretty interested in getting one of the elite basses..
The Elite pickups are not Fender Lace Sensors. The Fender Lace Sensors became available with the Plus instruments in 1990.
Actually I do believe that the Lace Sensors did come out on the Plus series basses in the 80's. I had an 87 Jazz Plus which had Lace Sensors in it...
