Fender Pickguard Question

Maybe a stupid question, be gentle.

Are there 3 ply pickguards all one color or only single ply? Or is that the whole point of it being 3 ply is to have the different middle color.

The whole point is to have the different colored layers when using a 3-ply. There are singly ply PGs also, but when you cut them out with a beveled edge, it looks nicer with that contrasting layer.
