Fender Precision 1976

I find this bass on ebay !

is it handmaked?. can that price be real, i mean i had seen other Fender Precision 1976 to a much higher price

The backplate doesn't have a serial number which makes me suspicious. I thought that changed after 1977?

I've got a '76 and it weighs a ton.

Looks right to me. Serial number switched to the headstock in 76, and you can see that's where it is in the pic. Should start with S6

Black p/g and thumbrest position consistant w/ 76 production.

Yeah, that's not the best looking Sunburst I've ever seen, but I've seen some ugly Fender bursts in my day.

Correct looking covers, and neck plate.

The only thing that raises an eyebrow with me is the fact that it's well under 9 pounds. That would be pretty rare for a mid 70's Fender. I'd want to see some good pics of the pots, and the neck cavity to ensure that it's a Fender body and electronics, but honestly, it looks about right from the pics. Where's the original case?

Is that a SN on the headstock? Looks like it starts with 74 or a letter followed by a 4.

I have a '74 P that looks nothing like that like that but I am not as familiar with '76 P's.

+1 on the burst. Not some of Fender's best work to say the least!

Looks right to me, serial number looks like 76 with the rest of the numbers slightly lighter, I've seen that many times. Maple board with a skunk stripe would be correct. The reds on a lot of those old basses faded away but that one looks to be in really good shape, but +1 on the pot's and neck pocket. I'd also like to see the neck stamp(although the green ink faded away on some of the mid 70s neck or recieved no stamp at all). Pickups shouild be date stamped gray bobbins.

Mine is 100% stock save the pickup and a replacement pickguard... there is no serial number on the neck plate... as others have said it is on the headstock via a decal.

My '76 doesn't have a serial number on the backplate either. This bass looks real to me.

Dr Eagle. That's an ash body not an alder body! OK I bought my P in 1976 and so I guess it could be a 75. I've never taken the neck off to check! For years I thought I had a '80 P-bass fretless until someone on the musicplayer forum pointed out the serial number made it a 77-78.

I don't think the price is that good to be honest. Did you see the price is in pounds and not dollars? I know 'vintage' Fenders are much more expensive in Europe then in the US, but I managed to get a '78 for under €1000,- twice in the Netherlands.

I'd ask to see picks of the underside of the pickups and the end of the neck. There's usually a date stamped or written there, and other clues...

Hell, judging by what prices generally look like in the UK, I don't see why not... *if* it's actually all original.

Yeah, but the finish just looks too shiny for a 32 year old bass doesn't it?

I'm leery of any 30 year old instrument without some scratches on it.....
