that makes me tingle in all the right places. the only thing that would make it better would be a black pickguard. I love black/maple, hence my purchase of a black pbass with maple neck. if it had a matching headstock I would be even more excited.

I decided to take the plunge and go black with matching headstock. the fretboard is a highly figured birdseye/beeswing maple board. So the next decision ...

white pearloid, white/black/white, or tortoise shell pickguard? I'm leaning about 55% towards the white pearloid, 40% towards the tortoise shell, and the remainder towards white/black/white or something else (maybe charcoal grey pearloid?)

to tease y'all a little more, this bass will be loaded with a Dark Star DS-3 that's located a little forward (towards the neck) of the standard P pickup location. the DS arrived in the mail this week, and the body/neck are sealed and ready for their color coats.

thanks for your input on this! if all goes well, I'll have an image (and maybe even sound clips!) of the completed prototype by mid-July

p.s. here's the rough board the fretboard was cut from. I used 3" from the right side of the 14" wide board

getting closer to having this wrapped up. here's an image with all the parts set together

I was deciding between a tortoise shell, white pearloid, and vintage white pearloid (shown), and I believe that the vintage pearloid is the one for this bass.

I'll be adding the Dark Star DS-3 route to the pickguard this afternoon, and should have this close to being wrapped up by the end of the weekend.

So what do you think (pro/con) about things so far?

that bass has me excited and tingly in all the right places. personal preference would see me doing it with all black hardware and a black pickguard so the neck really popped out at you though... course, i'm in a post-punk goth type of band, so your mileage may vary..
