Fender precision special

Was looking at this bass and found the E string a little off putting. Is this something that fender would have done or has this neck been replaced ?
I can't see any other precision where the strings don't run pretty much parallel.

Looks like to many wraps and an over lap on the post.

Do you think that could put the string that far out of alignment ?

IME, this varies with nut width. On a 1.75" P bass, the E string lines up pretty straight. On a 1.625" P bass, it toes in a little. If you have an overlapping wrap, it can look a lot like this. While it may not be ideal, it doesn't really hurt anything. There is no reason to suspect a replacement neck based on this.

Edit: Maybe I've got that backwards. Maybe it toes in a little on the 1.75" nut widths.

That makes sense. It's an American special with the thinner neck so it would have the narrower nut.
