Do the Japanese basses follow behind the USA models or anything like that? Can we expect to see a MIJ/CIJ model in the near future of the Precision V?

Fender Precision V - Will we see a MIJ?

I doubt it. The Japanese models are generally far more interesting than the US ones

i guess the whole thing is that i want to get a p-bass, and i want it to be a 5 string, and i do not want to pay for a MIA bass. This MIJ P-basses that are available now, are only 4 stringers, as far as I know.
Actually Fender Japan offered a 5 string p-bass before; the Takeshi Ueda (of Mad Capsule Markets fame) precision bass.
You could get 4 and 5 string models and if I remember correctly, they had Leo Quan bridges and Dimarzio pickups as standard. However, it only came in white and without a pickguard (controls were kept under a metal bell plate). They used to come with a sheet of stickers for the hardcore Mad Capsule Markets fans to cover the bass with. Had a quick look at Ishibashi, but couldn't find anything about the bass.

looks like you can get the Takeshi Ueda 5 string p-bass off ishibashi for about $870 (93,000 yen).. It seems new though it is listed in the used section.. there aren't many details.
Looking at another thread though, it seems that this instrument is made out of basswood. I don't really know the difference but it seems that this is the crappy wood most MIM basses are made from?

I believe that has a basswood body and Japanese pickups but don't quote me on that. I am also pretty sure that it has a narrow neck for a 5-string - 42mm at nut, just like the CIJ 5-string Jazz.

I don't know how much shipping is but I am imagining I can't save more than $250 bucks getting this bass over the american precision V which is 1200 at musician's friend..

Nothing wrong with basswood, in fact its a pretty nice tonewood, softer than alder or ash, but that dosen't matter with Fender's bombproof poly finishes!
well i just sent them an email about the condition of the instrument, since it really says nothing about it.. i'll see what they say..
here's what I got back from ishibashi.. I don't think I am going to get it because for an extra $200, I can get the american that I can actually see and play before buying.. but here you go:

+1 I already did this and spent less than 1k on an absolutely pristine MIA P5. Be patient and keep your eyes open.
Since the American Standard P5 appears successful, I wouldn't be surprised if Fender adds an MIM Standard version to go alongside the Standard Jazz V. That's more likely than an MIJ version IMO, because Fender seems to use MIM Standards to mirror the American Series/Standard.
