I could use some input on pickups for my American Pro Jazz.
I play mostly finger style through an Ampeg preamp, SVT-style sound. Not overtly aggressive in sound, but with a certain amount of old school drive.
I love the deep register of the factory installed V-mod pickups, the E and the A string sound great and have real punch and presence. The higher register I'm not so fond of. I know these pickups are a combination of Alnico V and II and to my ears the alnico II part (d and g string) of the PU lacks clarity and bite.
If I were to find a new set of pickups with a character of the deep register, but on all strings, where should I look?
