Fender Road Worn Basses

I fell in love with these Fender Road Worn's. They Play, feel, sound so incredibly good I can't say enough about them. If you have not gotten a chance to try these do yourself a favor and put one in your lap and give it a go...I bought a Fiesta red Jazz bass and a Sunburst Precision. I just wanted to share a couple of pictures...

How do you think the Precision compares to the AV 57? Also are the back of the necks sanded? Sweet looking basses.

I think they're not. The necks feel a bit sticky but with a little bit of love they feel awesome.
Without a doubt they sound amazing

Yeah I think the stickiness is to acurately feel like a real old one.

I played one recently and the neck sure look sanded on that one. It was my biggest beef about it. To me the neck means everything and sanded necks do not feel the same as a well worn in vintage neck.

I prefer my US reissues to the Road Worn that I played.

It was very well made though.

I put custom shop 60's pickups in my jazz RW and it's to die for! I've had many 2k and 3k plus basses in the past and this has become one of my all time favorites! Pure old school warm, round, organic, and thumpy! I do get made fun of a lot on the gigs when the older cats ask me when it was made. But they can't deny that it sounds good!

BTW, the bridge saddle screws are super loose. When I change my strings they spin around like crazy. A little Threadlocker Blue solved that problem!

I have played both and to my liking I chose the Road Worn. Something about a worn in, great feeling instrument sold me. The back of the necks are worn in and how Fender doe's it is a good question.

The neck on my Road Worn seems to have had the wearing done before the finish. Can't feel the slightest difference between the worn and unworn portions of the neck when running my hand over it. Maybe some necks ar different than others.

I love those basses, They are fairly inexpensive,, sound pretty good and you dont have to worry about dinging the,, .. not that i ever cared about that anyway.. but some folks like their stuff all shinny and showroom new.. I never cared about the way they looked.. just the way they played and sounded.. Love the RW series.

I think they're cool but for the money you can get an Am Standard and get the HSC. Just too expensive for MIM IMHO.

I think they play awesome and sound great, but for that much cash, I feel they should at least include a nice HSC. That would make a world of difference for me.

or if you like the wear finish. you can get a hwy one way cheaper. and give it a couple of years and it'll have its own unique wear. although i do like the RW's
