Fender Roscoe Beck Settings

ha, the M3 x 30mm hex head certainly looked right, so I ordered the min set of 25 (! .. cheap).
So, they are certainly the right diameter, but 30mm appears to be too long.
Geez. So, now I know the size, I just need to figure out the right length.
Also, having looked at the RB IV bridge pretty closely now, I'm almost comfortable with the idea that the locking bridge saddles may obviate the need for the intonation length screw. Just move the saddle to the correct intonation position and then tighten down the locking screw.

On with the obscure bass repair adventure!

You're correct... the locking saddles will save you. Spector bridges are the same way. But it's a much easier adjustment if the screws are there! And don't be scared to cut the screws to length if need be; a simple hacksaw will do.

The parallel setting is smoother and more "modern" sounding. I like that one a lot with the tone knob pulled up for a tone that is 2 clicks toward a stingray sound from a J-bass sound.

The best sound is single coil blended strait up. Perfect J tone. Pulling up on the tone knob gives it that bridge blend burp.

There are some interesting sounds where you set one pickup to parallel and the other to series, and use the tone pull or not ... but I find those to sound better solo than in the mix, where the J tone tends to really shine.

I don't really care for the series sounds, but I never like series sounds.
What does pulling the tone knob up do? I think i want one of these basses, to retire my 83 L-2000 for studio use only.
