Fender Rumble 100 or Fender Bassman 100

Found these two amps used.

Both are asking 250$

Dont have any experience with any bass amps.

Hoping to compete with an acoustic drum kit.

Maybe if they're a light drummer and you have no guitarist it would work.

Wow good thing I didn't jump on that one. From his description it sounds like a combo.

I wouldn't call him a light drummer. Is a 100W going to be underpowered?

This is the description. Listed as Mega Bass Amp. Am so far not successful in finding a product page from Peavey.

Reduced to $200 . A 200 watt Mega Bass Amp from Peavey - Digital Bass System , this amp works great with lots of power also EQ asking $275 now only $200

200 W would likely be sufficient I would thing?

Well I have just started out. However one of the things Ill quickly be getting into is jamming with my brother (drummer) and friend (guitarist).

Main types of music played are usually like Paramore, Simple Plan, Billy Talent type stuff but with some heavier metal stuff as well.

Usually I played rhythm guitar when we did do this. But I decided I would like to get into base. There is the idea of later doing gigs at local bars if we are reasonable enough. (Guitar and drummer are strong players)

There's nothing wrong with Peavey amps ...some people like them ..... some don't ...do you have a cabinet?

I have nothing. I am just closing a deal on an Ibanez 5 String (GSR205.)

Like I mentioned. I am a guitarist looking to get into bass as I like the sound and find some of the techniques very cool.

Preferably with as mild a hit to the wallet as possible. Especially with going away to school next year.

Is there any specific reason why Peavey's are not liked by some?

I have a Peavey Combo 300 bass amp, and it is 210 RMS watts, into a single 15" speaker, it's plenty loud for small ice house gigs and band practice, a lot of the peavey amps are able to run 2 ohm loads .... 200 watts RMS into a 4 ohm load is the minimum for a bass amp that is going to be giged ... IMHO

A lot of people just don't like the tone ...and a lot of people think they are cheaply made, because they priced very realistically ... in my experience, they are rock solid and you can get a usable tone out of them

Ice house is not a term I've run across before?

Okay I am a Physics student so I understand the concept of Ohm s and resistance. But to make sure. A higher resistance would mean a louder amp?

I see your not from Texas ... an Ice House in it's simplest terms is a small bar with several garage doors wide open and the A/C on full blast ..... you need to read the first Stickey in the amp section...it will explain Ohm's

Closest I have found on more information on the Peavey is from an old craiglist ad.

Says:
Digital bass system, 2 space rack mountable, bi-ampable, 200 watts per channel @ 4 ohms, 7-band EQ

Nowhere near Texas.... I way up North in Canada EH!
(although I will admit I do say eh lol)

But I understand Ohms. Its just you put the 4ohms into your description of the minimum power. That just makes me wonder.

Would a 200W @ 4 Ohms be louder that 200W @ 2 Ohms?

Not necessarily so ... most amps that say they will drive a 2 ohm load, will also state a higher wattage level, and we are talking about solid state amps, when talking about tube amps, most will have several ohm taps and the sound level will be about the same
