How does the 200 head do for small - medium sized gigs? I understand that speaker area has a lot to do with volume, but I know wattage can play a part too.
The 200 would presumably serve your small-medium gig sized needs (depending on your speaker/ cab choice), but another $100 and you more than double your watts. My answer: get the 500 head.

I've got a rumble 100 which is getting on in years. Recently whenever I try to plug it it ejects the cable. The plug pops about halfway out. I've tried different cables and have also tried a different amp, and its definitely a problem with the input jack on the rumble. Does anyone have a fix, or is it time to retire the amp?

Buying a new Rumble is always fun. That shouldn't be a difficult fix at all for any handy technician. Clean the jack with some DeOxIT and adjust the tension. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail /DeoxIT?utm_source=MSN&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign=none&utm_term=Bing_PLA_All_Products&device=c

At the very worst, you'll need to install a new jack.

Replacing the jack is a relatively painless task for any tech. I'd say you're looking at a 25 dollar fix, but it's possible that something has shifted internally, preventing the jack from going in all the way, or pushing it out.

Anyone have advice on how to get light amount of distortion with no volume change switching it on and off? I use a separate pedal for it instead. Wondering if there was something stupid I am not doing right on amp.

I have gain up high. Suspect this is contributing factor.

If I am understanding your question....try balancing the "level" knob with your bass with switch off then switch the distortion on--if volume goes up--turn knob counter clockwise--and vise versa.

That's part of it. The other part is to have less distortion.

Bringing gain way down does help. But changes my clean tone. Hmmm.
