If we are talking MIA, I think this is mostly right...
2003 had the American Series. This will have the same bent plate bridge as the previous American Standards and will string through the body. It will also have the S-1 switch, rolled fingerboard edges, and -I think- a slightly more rounded body.
2003 also had the first generation Highway Ones. These have a more vintage, top-load bridge, Mexican tuners, a thin matte finish and a skunk stripe.
2012 had the redesigned American Standards with the high mass bridge and custom shop 60's pickups.
2012 also had the American Specials, which are essentially the third-generation of the Highway Ones. These are, along with the other Highway basses, very similar to MIM models.
All these lines have more in common than they have different. There are going to be individual winners and losers among all them. What specifically are you wanting to learn here?
