Fender/Squier Humbuckers as compared to G&Ls

This is the first thread I've started in probably 9 or 10 years so here goes...

Since G&L went down I've been trying to learn more about Fender and Squier's humbucker pickups in the hopes that I can get or build a beastly bass with some L2000 attributes. Been curious about the active Flea bass, the blacktop precision, and the vintage modified jaguar special HB as far as output, voicing, and flexibility.

I used to use my LB100 with TI jazz flats into a diamond compressor to duplicate my L2000, but now that I'm running a new pedal setup I can't really do that anymore.

Do you want L2000 pickups? If yes, they should be available in the near future:

If you just want the flexibility of the L2000, then you can do that a number of ways. Flexible preamp with coil tapping switches for the pickups is the route I would go. Pick your favorite pickup manufacturer and get something that allows flexible coil setups (series, parallel, single). If you want something closer to a G&L MFD, then make sure the pickup you choose is higher output.

Noting on the preamp that the passive section does not need the linked preamp chip. If you want most of the features of the G&L L-series controls, then all you really need is to wire passive treble/bass cut and coil tap switching.
