Fender Steve Harris 2012 P neck on 2012 MIA body?

Hi Guys,
So im looking to put together a little project. Ever since i sold an old japanese fender p-bass clone of mine, no bass has felt right. that fender clone had the beefiest neck ever. it was so comfortable to play. I've been doing research and it looks like the Steve Harris Sig. MIJ neck could be a winner, only i dont want to buy the whole bass. I rather have maybe an olympic white body or 3tone burst body.

what are the possibilities with swapping necks. can it only be done with certain years, models? what type of modifications should i be expecting to make on the body. Input would be extremely appreciated.

ALSO. has the Steven Harris Bass neck profile change over the years? i prefer to get the 2012 model but if there is year where the profile was bigger, pleeeeease let me know.

thanks

Steve Harris neck on a MIA body should be a real winner. It might be hard to find a Steve Harris neck without dropping $600 on ebay for one.

Fender necks are generally interchangeable. That was part of Leo's design. There's no reason a 2012 Harris neck shouldn't fit on a 2012 body. You might have to shave a little extra off the neck pocket to get it to fit perfectly, but that's about it. As far as I'm aware, they both use 4-bolt neck plates so everything should be hunky dory.

I can't say if the neck profile's changed over the years. I don't think it has.

If you're doing a MIA body, make sure it's an American Standard and not American Deluxe. American Deluxe has a heel contour, a 5-bolt plate, and the neck pocket is cut to accomodate a 21-22 fret neck, so it won't work so well with the Harris neck.

That Stratosphere store on evilbay will have them. Not cheaply, but they will have them. I'm kind of preferential to the beefy precision necks myself and check around from time to time to see what prices are like, see if I could get so lucky as to score one for a song. :D

yeeeeah i noticed the Stratosphere store. I curious whether Fender Custom shop ever takes orders for necks only. it sounds silly, but a baseball bat 70's P-neck replica, brand new would be worth paying over a grand in my case. Just not ready to throw down 4 grand for the whole thing, although i may be better off holding off till thats the case.

From experience you may have to route the neck pocket a little; MIJ neck heels tend to bit slightly deeper and wider that standard.

I put a MIJ neck on a Warmoth body and had to route slightly.

Currently thinking of putting a MIA neck on a MIM body.
