Fender superbassman best year?

Does anyone know if there is a functional difference between the 90s lookin black face superbassman and the current version which is the more vintage looking silver face?

I used to play on my friend's bassman 100T in the jam room and i always loved the tone especially the overdrive. Im thinking about trading in my Peavey Vb2 for one, and since the 100 watt and 300 watt models are pretty much the same price i figured ill just go big.

The first Fender Super Bassman was a Silver faced amp from CBS owned Fender in 1969. Don Randall was still Vice President until 1970. Both the Black faced (1965-69) and Silver faced 'looks' were his idea. The Super Bassman would continue until 1972 when it was renamed the Bassman 100 until 1978 when it was replaced by the Bassman 135 with ultralinear transformers. I think they continued until about 1982. All of the Bassman amps from that time forward were solid state and I do not recollect any 'Super Bassman' amps until the advent the all tube Black faced Super Bassman presently available. If it is affordable to you, that is what I would buy if I needed a concert bass rig.

Maybe you're talking about the Bassman 300Pro or 300T..?

In this case, VERY different to the current Super Bassman. And my vote goes to the current Super Bassman. It's a superb amp

So, that's a Fender Bassman 300Pro. Very different than the Super Bassman. Hard to describe for me, other than with the 300PRO I was always fiddling with the eq and wasn't ever really satisfied, but the Super Bassman.... one note and it was instant gratification.... for me. The Super Bassman, with its VINTAGE channel, is, again, for me, lush, vintage, all tube tone, thick and punchy. I felt the 300PRO was more modern sounding, for want of a better description.
Both great amps. But imo, the only similarities is that they're Bassman and all tube. Not much else
