Fender V: In Line vs Offset Tuning Pegs

Anyone have experience with the Fender 5-string basses with in line tuners? They look a little odd to me, but apparently were the stock layout until about 2008 or 2010 when they switched to the one offset to the bottom side of the headstock.

Are there any cons to the in line layout that I should be worried about?

I've got a 96 with inline machines. Absolutely no issues to be concerned about.

Cool. I've seen those models go for pretty cheap recently and wanted to know if I should pull the trigger on a mid-2000's MiM V or just get a new Squier.

Mine is a MIA Deluxe and sells today for about $1100

Wow. I don't know the difference between the deluxe and (probably) standard, but I've seen the late 90's to 2010 MiM V going for $300-600 easy.
