Alright, I know these 2 basses are different animals, but I'm interested in both. I will likely be buying 1 or the other soon. Any one have any experience with either? I know the necks will be vastly different in that the hot rod is U shaped & the Sekect is Modern C. I like both though. I originally was looking for a Jazz with 70's spacing (i.e. 74 AVRI). However, I love the look of these 2 & also I'm a whore for nitro & satin necks (74 AVRI is gloss poly body & neck).
The hot rod I'd get in CAR.
Pros: 70's position jazz bridge, P pickup, & u shaped satin neck (had a Nash with a U neck & loved it).
Cons: literally only 1 video on you tube & Tony "Chicago" slaps it like 80% of the time, since I don't slap makes it tough to judge tone. Very little info on this bass other than what fender says, no reviews
The Select I'd get in Amber (passive).
Pros: beautiful flame top, quarter sawn neck, & the in videos I've watched sounds awesome.
Cons: 60's pup spacing (maybe not a cob to most, but I have a very nice 62 AVRI that is obviously 60's spacing & sounds awesome).
If have to change either pickguard as I'm not a fan of white pickguards.
Or I could say screw both & get a 74 AVRI.
