So, in other news, I received the vintage bridge earlier today. I did a little testing with some spare strings before disassembling my current #1 bass, and I'm not sure I'm going to move forward.
Given my preference for narrow spacing, it may come as some surprise that I like relatively thick/stiff strings, but I do. I do not think that there will be enough flexibility to have the string curve up and over top of the saddle above the intonation screw in any natural way. As soon as I applied any tension, the string snapped back across the threads more towards it's natural resting space.
Oh well, looks like if I want tighter spacing I should do it the right way with a proper bridge. For now I'm just going to try and love my Precision for what it is, ginormous bridge spacing and all!
