File work Question on Zoom H2

I have recorded a live performance of about an hour in 2 - 30 min. .WAV files. There are 5 to 6 songs I want to divide on each 30 minute file.

Do I normalize, then divide, then covert each to MP3 on the Zoom H2...or should I export the 2 raw .WAV files and do all that on the PC (all I have is Audacity) before I burn them to cd?

Is this a really hard question? I'm not an engineer, just a jaded bass player trying to hack a recording from squat. At this point I would take a flame response...anyone?

I would probably do both - normalize the whole file, split, then work on each track. Normalize, compress, boost volume as desired. Remember the settings you use for each and give each a listen afterwards.

I have an H2 and that's exactly how I've been editing them (I use Sound Forge).

Keep track of your settings just so you are in the right ballpark. You still need to use your ear depending on the style of music, the difference in each track, and the output you are looking for.

I've been mostly using my H2 for recording with my friend while we are writing. I set the H2 to the 120 degree stereo with each cab in the field.

It's mostly rock stuff so I normalize, compress the hell out of them, add a touch of reverb, and boost the volume as needed. All my post-processing is done in Sound Forge - quick and easy.
