Filling a hole

Hello guys,

I have a Precision bass wich I put chrome pickup covers on, I just eye balled it and tried my best to put it on correctly (took me three tries... wich means three holes!).

Today I received my 62 re-issue Pbass pickguard and I knew it: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
I am planning to fill the holes with epoxy and then drill it, but what would you guys do?

drill it out, plug with wood dowel, sand and there ya go.

I am not sure if I will do it eventually, I think I'll just bring it to my luthier, because I ain't very handy and because I'm a bass player.

How do you get the dowel, matchstick or skewer to be the same depth as the body's surface?

Is there any way to do that without ruining a finish via sanding and scraping?

Eh, Ive marked them off before and sorta cut them to fit, got it pretty close, but not perfect.

Ya really need to scrap it flush to make it perfect imo

you can insert the dowel, mark flush to surface with a razor blade, then pull dowell out and cut to size.

First, cut it a tiny bit longer than you need. Next glue it in. Then use a razor blade to cut it darn close to flush. Use one layer to scotch tape on both ends of the razor blade and leave the center alone. The last cut can be carefully made with a sharp chisel.
