Frontal - blackburst with tort on roased maple.jpg
New - February '23. Never gigged or taken out.
Beautiful, tort on black burst matte. Super nice instrument, absolutely no neck dive, wonderfully fast neck (roasted maple) with the smoothest frets EVER.

See photos for description.
Note: The glamour shot (purple background photo) is the BC stock photo - same bass, same serial number.

*** Please note the following alteration from stock:
Stock pickup was swapped out for a Seymour Duncan SBP-1.
> In doing so, the luthier used pots with a longer stem - the control knobs are not flush with the top of the bass - the depth of a washer (see photos) . Aesthetically, it's not noticeable to anyone but the player (looking down at the right angle) but it’s there.

Adjustable bridge spacing currently set to 18.5 mm.
Original Sandberg Black Label split coil pickup included.

The bass is in like new condition (except the above!) - I've gone over it many times and can't spot anything. No dents, dings, pick marks, etc.

She's wearing GHS P Flats - will also come with a set of Rotos, D'Add tapes, and the original Sandberg rounds (stainless steel?). The case is the 34" padded gig bag Sandberg uses with the Lionel.
All original paperwork and tools are included as well. Will even ship in the original box.

$1300 plus actual shipping within conus. PP F&F preferred.

Please let me know if you have any questions, etc. Thanks for taking a look!

Sweet looking bass. Not sure if it’s a typo, but the title mentions “for sale/trade”, anything in particular you are keen on?

why was it necessary for the luthier to touch the knobs while changing the pickups?
Also, do you have the original parts?

Trade interests: SS or Medium Scale hollow body; or, "the right P" (whatever that means); or, something I can't resist. Sale preferred however.

When the pickups were changed, the pots were as well to 250K ones. I have the original Sandberg pickups - do not have the old pots
-
Weight: 7.8 pounds

THANKS!

THX,
I guess he just grabbed the long-stem pot.

1000+ view bump!
- Fit, finish, build quality: flawless, impeccable.
- 7.8 pounds and super solid. No neck dive (with a 2" nylon strap). Very comfy.
- Fast and easy playing neck. 1.55" at the nut, 2.375" at the 12th fret; flattish profile. The frets are just crazy smooth- "Like butta" in all directions.

Pretty sure Sandberg PLEKS all their basses. They did my 48 at least.

I haven't giggled with it for a few years and I usually use the neck pickup when I'm not playing a P bass. I'm just a Precision kind of guy. That is a beautiful bass!

Might be a long shot, but would you be interested in a Steinberger XQ2ADB for a trade? Doesn't really match your interests other than "unique" LOL :) I just posted it for sale/trade on the classifieds if you're interested.

One more try at a sale before I go the trade route (thanks TB).

This is a great, great instrument. Just not for me (an expensive error despite my pre-purchase due diligence).

I did the pickup / pots swap in an attempt to get a more vintage sound. Progress was made - the new pickups are less edgy than the stock Black Labels (ceramic magnets) but I'd say the bass retains its intrinsic, very resonant character probably due to the sub-8 lbs weight and the ash body.

Anyway, as another TBer pointed out (and I learned the hard way):
Sandbergs should come with a warning sticker. WARNING : OUR BASSES DO NOT SOUND LIKE FENDERS!! They have a very modern sound with great clarity , note seperation, sustain, and fullness through the entire range.

$1175, shipped CONUS.

Thanks.

I don’t play short scale, but if I did, this would be a great mini project. I also prefer vintage tones, and a while back I also bought and sold some Sandbergs. That was before I learned how to work on my own basses. Those basses were active, and that’s why I sold them. However, this bass is passive and easy to work on. If it were me, I would pull the Duncan’s, sell them here or trade them for Fender 62’s, put La Bella flatwounds on it, and it should be good to go. You can also change the capacitor to .01 to warm things up even more. Of course I would change the pots while I was in there. These basses play beautifully, and this would be a very small investment (under $100, plus your time ).
