Finally met the legend...

IMG_5041.JPG
Last night I went to a Judith Owen show in Munich. Included in her band were two music legends: Leland Sklar and Russ Kunkel.

As expected, the performance was stellar. I have been listening to and emulating Lee Sklar for 40 years and it was a revelation to see him play live in a very small venue. The thing that struck me about his playing was the total focus and attention given to every single note. Of course this is to be expected from a person who has played on over two thousand recordings, but to see it live was a real learning experience for me, almost transcendental.

The best part of the evening, though, was the meet and greet afterwards. Got to chat with the man for a few minutes--gracious, friendly, articulate, and just like with his music he devotes total attention to whomever he is speaking with, as evidenced in the attached photo. (Yes, I have a few photos with the obligatory Sklar salute. PM me and I'll send you one.)
