This bass comes with an unshielded cavity so it most likely buzzes already, the aluminum pickguard does next to zero. Your American Original is probably shielded instead.if you switch from gold you might have to ground the cable jack. On my American Original 50 p with the gold pickguard the pickguard acts as the ground for the cable jack. Just something to consider if you are not skilled at soldering
Mine is not shielded. Just the wood in there. I have no buzz. This bass comes with an unshielded cavity so it most likely buzzes already, the aluminum pickguard does next to zero. Your American Original is probably shielded instead.
That's great! Unfortunately my apartment's wiring buzzes unless I shield the cavity. Same with a couple of local venues. YMMVMine is not shielded. Just the wood in there. I have no buzz.
Nice! Congrats. Embrace it. Is that Daphne? Pics are dark on my phone. Looks really sweet. Rock it.
The pickguard's gold? It looks white, or cream. I guess it's the lighting. But, yes. I would do a white pearl guard. It would look awesome on that blue.

Remind us if you would; What exactly is this again?
Nice looking bass...and not too heavy.
Exactly. The only thing that matters is the value of the capacitor.Am Orange Drop capacitor is not an "upgrade". Capacitors are simple circuits that perform a simple function. There is no difference between sound by using different brand.
I'm glad you like it and think its cool for your NBD, but it doesn't do much.
..and the soundclips are @...?Sorry for the light quality, it was already dark when I got home - and AFAIK, It's illegal to have an NBD without posting it here and the rule for NBD posts is 'pics or it did not happen'.

Here it is again, in broad daylight. The stock photos don't do it justice - and neither do my cellphone snapshots.
It's not Daphne blue, but Seafoam Green.
Just in case you missed it and can't find the earlier threads on the topic:
It's a Seafoam Green / Maple Board Fender Vintera 50's Precision Bass made in Mexico.
The Pickup installed is an Aguilar AG 4P-60. The Strings are Chromes. The straplocks are Schaller.
The weight is 8,33 lbs. ;-)
The possible upcoming things I might do are:
-Take it to a luthier to dress the fret ends - so the neck's smoothness matches that of my other basses.
-Acquire and mount a different pickguard (Pearl white)
-Decide whether or not the P-Bass Ashtray I have lying around might or might not go on there.
-Mount the thumbrest.
I think both the ashtray and the thumbrest might go on there with double sided tape to check them out for a
while.
...but right now, I'm happily thumping away on this beautiful, no frills / no bells&whistles utility machine and all those mods I deemed necessary can wait for a bit - I'm in no rush.
Did you ever find out the value of the cap he installed?
Congrats on the NBD!After a massive amount of overthinking and several threads here on TB, today a brown clad man carried a brown box from a brown truck into my house, which is not brown, sorry.

...the box contained the end of my search. This P bass, in the colors I was looking for - SFG/Maple. It's the Mexican Vintera 50's P - I had it upgraded with an Aguilar 4P 60's Pickup and an Orange Drop capacitor. The original strings are gone and D'addario Chromes are installed. The action is set as low as it goes, which is quite low, and it's playing mightily fine.
I've had it on the amp for half an hour now and I can't complain.
P basses are, IMHO, about utility and not about a sparkling bedroom sound.
However, I plugged this into my pedalboard, flipped the switch on the amp and did not touch a single dial anywhere. The output is a bit hotter than on my main bass, so the compressor engages earlier, but my ears liked a lot what they were hearing. The Chromes are fresh, so I wiped them down with fast fret and had a lot of dirt in the cloth, and they need some breaking in to loose their zing, but I dig it already.
The simplicity of a four string P bass. I'm finally old enough to appreciate it.
This is my first ever Fender product (apart from a cable).
Congrats on the NBD!
When I read, "...massive amount of overthinking..." I had a good belly laughI've been going through the same thing over the last few months-- also over a classic Fender P-bass with flats. Learning about flats alone can be overwhelming LOL! Just today my first set of Chromes was found on my doorstep, also to be installed on a Seafoam Green P, so reading your post was a lot of fun-- kindred spirits!
