Finding a vintage bass....

I think if you have thousands of dollars ready (or some very big luck) then all you have to do is just search everywhere (in the internet itself there's plenty of sites of this) to find the vintage bass you dream to have

Count myself very lucky in that I was surfing around some vintage sites/ youtube vids and found a P bass for sale - Bobby Vega is on the YouTube video playing it for the seller - was advertised as a '64 but the seller subsequently removed the neck and sent me the pictures - bought it on the spot since the neck date was 5NOV63 - my exact birthday!!!!!!!!!!! What are the chances !!?? Will be buried with this baby !!

Just an FYI...The neck stamp back then wasn't the exact date of manufacture. The "5" in the neck stamp is the model code for a P bass neck, not the date. It means the neck was stamped in November 1963 but it doesn't really indicate the date the bass was actually assembled. It's possible they are right and the bass was assembled in '64.

I've got my birth-year bass, a 1956, but the neck date is November, my birthday is April.
I understand, though, that the parts are dated, but that's not necessarily the same date when the bass was assembled. So, birth-year is close enough!

I found my birth year bass 7-8 years ago but didn't buy it.

A local vintage store had a killer 1969 Precision that was fairly priced. I liked it, but absolutely fell in love with a 1974 that was hanging beside it. Even though it was poo brown and had major wear, it was about 8lbs and sounded better than the 1969 and even a 1964 and a 1966 that she shop also had for sale.

Still have the bass and will likely never sell it.

I must be in the minority. I have never even thought about buying a bass from my birth year. Doesn't really interest me but for the sake of this thread, I searched for a Fender Jazz from my birth year. I found one for $27,500.
