I could very well get the Webster Legend 5 and then replace the preamp with the Darkglass, should come closest to his tone!

The Euro. This guy is a spector junkie that I know. Most of his stable are spector.
I know, well out of your budget. Just wanted to throw in I thought it was a nice bass, even though the price point isn't so nice. I would personally buy a cheaper euro 5 lx if that was the model I was set on, and not the AW sig. I would save the $800 on a new model. Ebony board on that AW is pretty nice though.
Honestly Alex Webster's tone is not tied to his signature bass. When I was really into Cannibal Corpse he was playing a Modulus quantum and his tone is very similar still.
Quick side story: I eventually got an entry level Modulus (Flea, Alex, and while I don't like Dave Matthews at all his entire band is amazing and Stefan, who's playing I love, had a Modulus too) anyways years later I sold that and got a fancy "real" Modulus…
Turns out I under-estimated the cheaper model because I really preferred it in the long run.
If you can get your hands on any Spector with two hum buckers and an 18v preamp I think you'll be where you want to be.
Don't get caught up in the price hype of there expensive models, I bet a cheaper one will sound the same, it's likely the craftsmanship and feel that changes, not the sound (this is why a squier still sounds like a p-bass even though it's 1/7th the cost of a custom shop Fender).

I think active EMG PJ will make any bass metal. Used Carvins and tune basses are a good fit, great quality, and pretty inexpensive.
just get a used ibanez sr.. fender jazz.. squier jazz.. or cheap schetter stiletto.. and put the emgs in it.. whatevers cheap

Personally think you should wait longer and go for the Webster bass you really want. Save or work some odd job.
Get a dingwall ng2 or ng3 fiver. Save a bit longer if required. Best b string in the business. Fan frets will cause no issue. Neck is the best fiver i ever played (also quite narrow at the nut). Balance is perfect. Those advising the stingray for the sound… this does that sound but with more b string clarity. Nothing will beat it for low notes. Need to tune even lower? The competition has no chance.

A little out of your budget, but something to look at. The Legend models are good basses. I own three Euro 5's and previously had a Legend 4. There is a definite difference in tone & feel, but it was still a really good bass. I used it for shows and it worked well in the mix.

honestly... almost any bass will work for metal. It just needs a volume knob 
but seriously, depending on tuning, almost any 4 string or 5 string will work. Just have to go with larger string gauges and do a setup if you are downtuning more than a whole step. Put a good preamp pedal and a dirt pedal and you're most of the way there. Decent amp and cab and done. If you look at all the metal bass players over the years you will find precision bass, jazz bass, p/j basses, humbuckers, passive, active, so on and so on. Just engage the dirt, push the mids on the preamp or amp, aggressive plucking hand or use a pick.

I've got a Legend with the same electronics as this and I think it sounds and plays incredible. I don't think you would be disappointed if you went with one of these.
I think double humbuckers close to the bridge are the key element. I had great sound with a G&L L2000 in a metal band a few years back.
