Finger plugging to hard?

So i started using the floating thumb technique since i upgraded my bass and couldnt bring myself to mount a thumb rest. I accully have found it have made my playing alittle more consistant while playing fast. The thing i have been noticing while playing fast is sometimes the strings will make a sound like they are smacking off the finger board, if i play more self consciously it dosnt make the sound l.
So im thinking it could be either the action is to low or my technique. Anyone else have this issue.

Do this more often as part of your practice routine. Even during your practice session, refer back to it from time to time.

You just said what it is. Try to play more self-consciously. Start out slowly and accurately, then build speed.

Make sure you aren't pressing the string so it touches the pickup. I make that mistake all the time, and it doesn't sound pretty.
