Those little fissures disappear if you run some good CA glue into them and sand right away with 320 grit paper on a small sanding block. Smooth afterward with 400 and then a quick wipe on/wipe off with Boiled Linseed Oil and you should be good.

Like Chet said, CyanoAcrylate - I use Loctite Ultra Gel (Blue Label) from Home Depot.

Read the label, eh? ;)
