Double Bass Fingerboard recurve (or whatever it's called)

I looked at a bass that needs some fingerboard work. it's a little too flat and the A bottoms out too easily. the Luth says there is enough fingerboard for one more re- plane, if that's the right term... My question is, how long or how much playing before it might need more work.
I asume a new fingerboard would be needed at that point.
