Finish Spilled Into The Pickups! HELP!

Ok ,I'm not sure if this is in the right spot, but i was refinishing a small spot on my bass, and my dog came by and knocked close to a whole bottle of natural finish onto the bass. I'm worried because some of it got into the pickup cavity's and possibly into the electronics. What should I do? will this destroy my pickups?

I was using some Ernie Ball Guitar Polish on my P bass, an I guess the cap wasnt on very well. Why I was spraying some on a rag, some of the polish drip from around the cap,and onto the pickup. After I let it set 3 days, I played it and it was dead. I took it and had it check out and it showed it was dead the guy said it would have to be replaced. I guess all you can do is let it alone for a few days then try it and see what happens. I wish you the best of Luck.

Hopefully you got as much as possible mopped up and wiped off. Try to leave parts to dry in open air as much as is possible. Chances are good it won't do anything to the pickups. (just like potting them in natural finish) It may damage pots. (cheap replacement)

Of course you never can tell what will happen so time will tell. The primary problem is finish contains petroleum solvents that can eat the insulation on cheap wire. Good pickup wire (formvar insulated) is virtually impossible to dissolve with anything except special solvent you buy for the purpose. Hope for the best.
