Firebass Problem

use that Mid sweep knob. if you comprimise your eq level you can get very loud. Less low, more mid until you get the volume you want. Then start rolling that mid sweep counterclockwise slowly and listen to the difference in tone and volume. you should find a happy medium. by doing this you are adding more mids but the mid sweep adjusts the frequency range. Make sure your active/passive switch is on passive also a dod 250 preamp/od can strengthen your signal. there really is no reason why you cant get the volume you need. You have more than enough power and speaker. I used a nitrobass (450 watts) with a peavey 1x15 and 2x10 in a very loud band and had no probs.

The Passive/active button? I cant seem to get any punch without it the button set to Passive. I tryed using a Art Phat boy pedal preamp and it seems to help the punchy sound I'm looking for but again if I dont use the Passive position because it seems to be too muddy. Now remember, I am getting a great sound I'm looking for... either way but its that cut out thing thats bothering me when we get to that enevitable "free for all" "really I now better$$$" Thing at the end of the night that I just cant leave alone.

I like the sound of an open E along with a (A string playing E at the 7th fret) Chunked along with my hand heal muting at the bridge. Chug Chug Chug Chug type thing.. It takes ton's of power an it is usually when I have the problem.

I have used my firebass with a 2x15 and 4x10 cab, and, i didnt need it even quarter of the way up, the room was shaking

The passive/active button should not affect "punch" , it will lower the input gain, push it in for active, then turn the pre gain up a little

I use teh updated version of teh Firebass I use teh Max 700, I run an 18 on the bottom and a 4X10 on top. I play 5 string basses and my head is very nice it is not enough power for me but I like to be louder then everone else alot of times the sound guy will take me out of the P.A. because my amp is loud enough. THIS IS NOT A GOOD PRACTICE TO GET USED TO!!!!! I am trying ot break the habit but I am a maniac. you may need to add a Aphex 204 or a 104 or a bass exciter to your rig. Also you may want to get a Digitech bass sqeeze, now I run a lot of highs I feel my amp has to many lows. so my DDT light flickers when I do my high runs, which it will because I crank my high EQ, you may also have your eq set wrong, i set mine at 11oclock for lows, 2oclock for mids and about 2 oclock for highs, thenI have other boxes giving me eqs in my chain. Most bass players I know run 100 watts, 700 should b fine.

I finally found the problem. Behind the front cover on the firebass the fans are mounted. What happend is when I took the amp apart a few months ago to clean it one of the zip ties that hold the connecting wires to the front face came loose. Thus the right side fan had a wire keeping it from working. Wow! Peaveys Must be tanks to be able to work with only half of its cooling system working as long as it did. Last night I cranked the volume hard and All you guys that said 700 watts is plenty. You bet! it is.... :hyper:

thanks for all the input.
