It seems a little faster so far, but I can't be sure yet. I know I'm a little disoriented by the lack of toolbars at the top and status bar at the bottom, but I'll get over it.

Is there any privacy difference between Iron and Chromium?

Iron is Chrome without the Google tracking pieces.

I believe if you right click at the top panels there is an option to show the status bar, and full menu.

Yeah you can. But even when they are there, the browser looks so much different than the last version it's going to be a bit of an adjustment.

Thanks for the heads up. My initial impression was good, but I will need to get used to it before making any decisions regarding it being a default browser. For now, I will stick with Iron for Windows and Firefox 3.x for Linux.
