Many things have needed doing, all keeping me from continuing this project. Now I'm back at it! However, I'm, switching around some ideas. I'm in the process of building an oak dining table and have some scrap stock left. It's just enough to make a 2x2 Sandwich bass body. So that's what I'm going to do.
I somehow like the idea of having a table and Bass from a single tree.
My Router sled unfortunately was killed by a humidity issue. But i have gotten good at using hand planes to do some joinery.
I have to do the 'alien' shape with this oak, because thats all that it will accomodate. So my plan now is to do a fretless Version of this unique and admittedly a bit weird bass. Next to my body stack, you can see I'm working on the table legs. I've got 8 pieces that I still need to glue up and plane to shape.
Anyway, back to basses. Meanwhile I also found a nice ebony Board that would go well for the fretless idea.

The neck blank is the rest of the figured maple from my first concept, in which i already Routed the truss rod slot. However it is maybe a bit narrow. So I'm thinking of splitting it down the middle and add a strip of oak (from that same tree again), and have a 3 piece laminated neck with ebony fingerboard.
