First bass!

I was in the position as you recently being new to basses having previously played a six string. I would suggest choice down here is limited more than in Finland but I luckily found a used old Fernandes bass from the nineties i think. PJ configuration and 40mm nut, slim neck,

It was a bit knocked about but it only cost me €70 but after a set of new strings and straightening the neck it played quite well. The chips were touched in with a handy matching nail polish!
What I'm saying is find something, anything and it will help you get a feel for what suits you and then you can move on to a better new model.

Reactions: the harp unstrung
Regarding G&L neck sizes, I’ve read posts on various threads where the author mentions necks on G&L’s are thick, fat, or otherwise large. This is not my experience, in fact I bought my M-2500 Tribute and L-2500 Tribute because the necks are so comfortable and playable. I sold a Squier VM P5 because the neck was so wide and not a good comfortable fit for me, and that bass had great tone!
My G&L experience began in 2019. I respect the opinion and experience of each member here at TB, perhaps the neck size on newer G&L builds is smaller than older ones? I haven’t had the pleasure of playing a more vintage G&L bass to compare.
I currently own a Fender MIM P bass, Sire V7 Jazz bass, and the two 5 string G&L Tributes. I really like each bass I own and the G&L’s get the most playing time.
Best of luck in your search!
