first build, oh, decisions...decisions!!

well as i keep think about my first build ive narrowed it down to a couple of choices what do you think

a) bolt on or neck though the body
b) poplar or maple or both
c) jazz or p&j combo pickup config
d) fretless or freted

a) depends on your preference. Also may depend on the body style that you choose.
b) depends on your preference.
c) depends on your preference.
d) depends on your preference.

It really comes down to what you are looking for in a bass. I could give you my opinions on what I would want into a bass, but this bass is for you. And you are the one that needs to decide on these features.

you guys are right hahaha but i always second guess my dicisions unless somone backs them up for me ..... i think im going for a through the body fretless jazz maple neck poplar "wings" thanks for the help

Neck through is kind of a pain in the ass, my first 2 builds were neckthrough and if you make a big **** up, the whole guitar is trashed..

Then again, making a neck and neck pocket that fit together perfect is kinda tough also. That said, I would go with bolt on for your first build.

For the woods, poplar and maple are too similar looking.. pick two woods that have a high contrast like walnut/maple. Both walnut and maple are cheap (where i live anyway), and look great together.

well i like in central PA close to about 6 mmillion saw mills so wood is pretty cheap and hmm i like the idea of the contrast cuz for finish i was thinking a purpleish red (magenta??) tinted finish with like black swirls .... dont ask me how i plan on doing this but ill try and a p j combo is forever ssounding better and better but i think i wanna stick with the neck through style

also i think a headless would balance out better with the bodyy shape i want is there anyway to utilize headless tuners and a trapeeze tailpiece because im in love with the look of thoose things
