First Build (warning: Noob content)

True dat. It's my first build and that is something I'll remember for next time. When I first played it, I was reminded of a 35" scale feel.

Well that and with that kind of knowledge around, you'll be up to par in no time, I'm jealous
Two things mainly. First, culling the soft, more decayed parts was important as spalted is "dead" wood with mushroom fungus creating the characteristic dark lines. Sometimes small spots are hard to detect until you try and sand it then it can crumble like a cookie. Second, I did not realize how porous it was. As it was maple, I assumed it was dense but this stuff was hard to seal. I used a couple of coats of vinyl sealer which didn't do much. I should have used an epoxy sealer which would have also given me a smoother surface for the clear nitrocellulose lacquer. Having said all that, I love the look of the wood. I'll use it again.

Recorded with two condenser mics, one at about 12", the other about 36" from front of AE410 Berg cab. Tweeter turned down to 20%. Genz Benz ShuttleMax 6.0 FES Channel with a bit of a low bump. Comments welcome. Just remeber, I said it was "rough".

hmmm... that's wierd. Doesn't do that on either of my computers. It does do something strange though. When I click on the link, another window opens asking "Do you want to close this window?" If you click "Yes" then you go to soundclick's homepage. If you click "No" then the soundclip window opens and plays. Please try it again and click No? Sorry for the riggermerroll.

It's not just the bridge that is contributing to the long neck feel. The upper horn only extends to the 18th fret. This was always my biggest problem with ASAT basses. Fender got it right extending the horn out to the 12th fret. Sure is pretty, but I'll bet the next one will be even nicer.

Buts its different! If I make a DIY parts bass, thats how Im doing my tuners.

Yes, that works! Sounds fabulous! S M O O T H ! Punchy, too. I really like the design. I'd have to play it to know of the bridge/upper horn strap thing bothers me but I would sure like to try!
