First D'Addario Chromes Try: DEAD E-string???

Just got my first set of chromes. After doing a set up, truss rod tightend, neck straight, intonation and string height set. I love the feel and tone but, the B string sounds wooley and the note blooms a few miliseconds later. Its a .132 which was a real tight fit into the nut slot. Could that be causing the problem or just a bad string?

Double check and make sure you don't have the string twisted from the bridge to the tuner. Even a slight amount of twist can throw things off. Especially on those thick strings. It's hard to keep them from twisting.

I think my B string does taht too...But it has more of a dull sound.

I had the exact same problem with the set I used once. Only once. Now, it will definitely remain once since I'm not the only one.

You all aren't winding the string around the post by hand then winding up the rest of the string with the tuning machine, are you? That method can twist your string and cause it to be dead.

That' exactly what I did.

Best way to do it is to thread the string into the post, let the string hang loose, and wind it up with the tuning machine, and don't let it twist.

Did that and "voila" the problem was half-solved. Half probably because my E had time (2 weeks) to twist a lot.

I did check to see if it was twisted, but that wasn't the problem. I used a nail file to slightly widen the B string slot on the nut. That fixed it partly. No volume swell after the note is played, but it still didn't sound right. Lowering the pickup ended up solving that. It sounds much better now. The B string still doesn't have the brightness the other 4 strings have. I think partly that is because its .132 diameter. The difference in the other 4 strings is only 15 to 20 thousandths and the b string is 32 thousands bigger?
I'm still calling DAddario in the morning.
