Double Bass First lesson tonight

I have my first double-bass lesson tonight. I've played bass guitar for about 3 years but want to learn DB for jazz and a variety of other reasons.

I was quite nervous at the beginning of the week but my instructor called me yesterday to touch base with me and see if I had any questions. He seemed quite nice and I am feeling more comfortable. He also told me to bring any books I have (I have a few on improvisation and sight-reading) as he tries to give some assignments out of those before asking me to buy new stuff (nice!). My [former] bass guitar instructor never really gave me assignments...

I am renting a Strobel by Eastman Strings or whatever.

So eh, just felt like sharing and saying hi...

Good stuff, man. The beginning is the beginning. It's worth it to give serious attention to how you're holding the bass and the bow, your posture, etc. Spend some quality time on that stuff. While you're working on your open string long tones, you're working on the ergonomic stuff too... Doesn't seem very musical in the beginning (and with arco, it may NEVER sound very musical!) but it's an investment in the future.

Best luck to you!
