First "Real" Amplifier

OK, I'm trying to become completely independent with my bass and equipment. I was using my mom's stuff but now I've got my own base, case, cables, etc. Except an amp. She has this real tiny Fender Frontman 15B, which is all she ever needed, but I need something a little bigger.

I was looking at an Acoustic B200H 200W Bass Head and B115 250W 1x15 Bass Cab Package because it's not to large, it's large enough for home and the school band. Also, I can attach it to something else when I need it (and/or have the money for it.)

Would this be a good amp?
What other suggestions would you have? (needs to be not huge, don't need a truck to move, fairly versatile)

The Acoustic gear is a good value for the money. I use the B200H for practice for one of my bands and it does the job. Decent power and sounds O.K. I hear that the cabs are a good value also. I don't think you can go wrong for a first rig.

Would like to see a 212 or 410 cab but you can add a second cab later.

Im buying the Avatar 210 cab, with the Gallien Krueger 600 backline bass head.

1. Is it 4 or 8 ohms?
2. Do you know what an ohm is/does?
3. How much money do you have? Can you save longer for a tad bit better setup?

Dont screw around, pick up the B600 amp and hang whatever cab you want to on it. When you decide you need a lot of zoom you can hang more speakers on it. The B600 sounds great. BOB

The cab is 8 ohms. The head can take 200 watts at 4 ohms. With this, you will only be pushing about 100-110 watts.

Man I remember asking a similar question many years ago so I'm gonna go easy. No you cannot plug straight into the cabinet. You have to have something to power it, i.e. the head. A combo comes with a built in head. It sounds to me like the B200/1x15 package would do very well for you. I have played through it and love the sound. I'm seriously considering buying the head for my home studio.
