Double Bass First steps to learning..

Hi Folks

Just bought myself a Harley Benton EUB from Thomann.

I play rhythm guitar so I have a basic understanding of the fretboard, but I'm in need of some help to get some meaningful sounds from this beast. I've never played a bass of any description before.

Could someone point me in the direction of some threads that might help me. I'm really looking for some books and hopefully a DVD that will get me started.

I'm moving to France in the next few months and will be getting some help from a bass playing friend of mine before I go, but once I've moved I'll be pretty much on my own until my language skills improve dramatically!! Ordering a beer is one thing, the finer points of music tutoring is another!

Thanks

Graham

Have you tried YouTube? The best thing you can do is get 1 or 2 lessons from a real teacher, just to get you going along the right path.
Btw, I'm looking to buy an EUB as my first double bass, so what do you think of the Harley Benton? Is the attachable bar in the right place or is it uncomfortable?
Hope my advice helps,
Joe

Hi Joe

Thanks for your advice. I've looked on YouTube but can't really find anything to help. They seem to be quite specific in content and there's not much for someone like me who's just starting out. Or maybe I just haven't found the right video!

I really want a tutor book and DVD that I can follow from the beginnings up to a point where I can start experimenting for myself.

I was a bit early in posting, as the bass hasn't actually been ordered yet. I was just about to do it when I found another one for sale and now I'm just debating which one to go for!

Maybe I posted in the wrong section, as I'm sure there must be something out there.

Could a Mod help me out by pointing me to the right section?

Thanks

Graham
