First string installation, weird sounding E string

Hi, I have installed new string yesterday but the e string sound really wierd.

left about 5 inches after the tuner

Whats wrong? Probably the guy that did the job

It's probably twisted. Take it off and try again.

Should I hold the ball end of the string while tunning(tightening) the string or should I let the ball end naturally twist a bit?

What in the name of tragedy could that be! I'm pretty sure it isn't a twisted string. I'm thinking about a saddle which somehow isn't properly supported by the bridge. Just like it barely touches the bridge.

Loosen up the e string and make sure its pulled all the way through and resting firmly on the saddle.

When stringing your bass grab the string by the fifth fret and pull it while you wind it up. To make sure its all the way through.

You are playing acoustically, you are not really hearing the fundamental, but mainly hearing natural harmonics and overtones. You are also playing the E string with a different attack than the others. Even some of the string behind the nut is probably being heard here.

Just make sure you have pressed down on the E string in front of the bridge so a witness point is created.

^ the guru of bass strings has spoken I agree, plug in and see how it sounds. Playing acoustically; you'll hear more noise that doesn't get transmitted through an amp.
