I am a fan of flatwounds, too, after year of rounds. I use GHS Precision Flats on my Danelectro '63-model bass, and on a Korean 6-string. They sound totally great on both.

I voted for the Peavey. No experience with the Dano but I did try flats on a Ray and didn't care for it. It mellowed out that classic Ray tone too much for my taste.

I voted Peavey...don't know why. Just bought a G&L fiver that came with a set of Chromes...first flats I've played since '74-'75 when I had a set on my Lafayette J clone. I'll play them til they're dead-dead-deadski. I'm not necessarily a fan, I'm a cheapskate.

I've got TI's on two of my moduluses (moduli?), a Q6 and Q5. would never go back to rounds...played with the same set on my Tobias basic 6 for somewhere around 10 years before changing them out. They just get better as they age. And bonus...fret wear is almost nil. Oh, and I too play with a pick almost exclusively...

One thing I discovered that I liked about flats vs. rounds is, if you change any of the electronics in your bass (add a Tonestyler, active preamp, passive pot upgrades, pickups, etc.), the tonal changes are more focused because the brightness is tamed, and your place in the mix is more easily adjusted and in a predictable fashion, as you have less frequency information to add into the mix. Especially with fretless, I love a good set of flats (never have been a mid-heavy, Jaco roundwound fretless sound fan).

That being said, I play in one band where I use jazz basses with rounds, and one band where I use a fretless jazz and a fretless p-configured Yamaha, both with flats. My rounds are Labellas on one of my basses (VERY piano-like in their presence), and D'Addy XLs on the others. The flats I use are Chromes.

Thanks for posting that video. I have never really been interested in flatwound strings for a fretted bass, but I'm intrigued to watch and maybe try some out...
