Double Bass fishman pro platinum bass eq

Not sure about the noise comments, mine seems to be pretty quiet. It has been a good tool for tone shaping, feedback reduction and direct out situations. I used one in front of my Ashdown 2x15 rig with a 7 piece soul band. Lots of volume and no feedback.

I should note that my experience with DB is limited to about 3 months now FWIW. I did try the K&K Pure Pre and Bass Max before settling on the Realist/Fishman.

I got mine recently because I loved the sound I got playing my Ashbory through a Fishman Loudbox amp which I would've purchased but it was underpowered. The unit has it's pros and cons but most importantly for me it really gives the Ashbory the woody quality of an upright.

I wouldn't do without mine. The Phase swith and high-pass filter are both invaluable tools. It's really the swiss army knife of preamps for upright; I just wish it had a built in tuner and mute switch, and it would be perfect.

As to noise, I used mine on a recording session last night and got a very good clean signal with no noise. Never had a problem in that regard.

Me too so I had to make this

I anybody using this preamp with a K&K Bass Max pickup?

If so, what settings are you using?

I find this pickup to be a bit boomy. I would like to use this preamp to get a clearer more defined tone.

Advice from anybody with Bass Max/Platinum Pro experience is greatly appreciated.

I actually own the Bass Max plus their booster box. "Boomy" is being polite IMO. I bought them 7 years ago when I got my first DB and hated the combo. One of the thee reasons* I never took my upright on gigs was that I hated the amplified sound. Eventually, the DB went into the case and the electric became my work horse for everything including jazz.

I played one gig with the rig since I took up DB again and it was awful. Carppy thiuddy tone and lots of feedback.

I bought the Full Circle/Pt Preamp two months ago but I was too busy to get the DB into the shop for installation. Finally I dropped it off to be installed while I went on a business trip. Bought a new DB while on business and arranged to sell the old one . Called the shop and asked them to take the p/u off.
So I never heard it .Jeez.

Then I got a call that this weekends set was an acoustic. Thursday rolled around and the promised underwood p/u did not materialize, so I figured, hell I can do this and I re-installed it myself. Its actually not that hard.

I used it on two consecutive gigs and had a great experience - great tone, no feedback.

* Three Reasons I quit playing DB
1) I was a wimp about lugging the thing around.
2) I was a wimp about learning proper technique and eventually injured myself
3) I hated the amplified sound.

I used the combination with great success for many years. I still use it with my backup bass. Although not essential, I sometimes use it with my Juzek/Realist. It depends on the room, but the PP is always in my gig bag.

+1 on the commentary re effectiveness with EB. I love the way it warms up the sound. I want another so I don't need to to the cable-switching deal...

I use these together. EQ is flat except high end turned all the way down. Also, a lot of voice is controlled by second fader (not the bass) from left. I'll "bump" it to taste. The Depth knob is important for getting a nice rich low end as well. Compress to your personal satisfaction...

Great EQ for the $-just bought one late June.
Used to use the Fishman Pro EQ- always works great-not as many features as the Platinum Pro EQ
I use it w/ an Underwood PU, & have used it with several different amps.
Getting better at dialing/tweaking the tone.
Always get compliments about my sound.
Just played a Jazz Festival-was able to have a direct XLR out with MY settings!
I keep it on top of the amp-tweak when necessary.

I use the K&K Bass Max with Fishman Platinum Bass DI. To combat boominess and enhance a clear, clean tone that cuts through the live stage mix-to start, I try to run my Input Gain on the preamp as hot as possible without distortion, then I generally boost the low-mid eq fader to taste (and God-forbid, I will lower the bass eq fader if called for) and it is important that the bass max pickup element is seated properly for maximum fidelity. Also, your Depth knob on the preamp needs properly adjusted (each gig). My biggest issue is volume/balance of my G string and airiness with this set up. I gig all the time with this rig including today and tomorrow. I also saw some posts on this thread that the Platinum DI is noisy, but in my case (I own 2) it is dead quiet.
