I'm considering buying a 5 String short scale bass with a B string. I'm not sure this even exists, and if so, how it would sound. Any recommendations?

Serek. Not sure if your budget but they seem to be the best so far. Also for a less expensive model look at MTD Kingston Lynn Keller. Bass Central has them in stock . It’s a PJ.
MTD USA will make you one. Top of the line boutique level stuff.
Ibanez Micro has one in black I think .
